1) Regular pin-downs
2) Wide pin-downs
3) One-dribble jump shots
4) Drive and kick
5) Feed the post on dribble relocation
6) Guard post-ups
7) Jab series
8) Hang dribble
9) Threes

Game shots for wing players, after warm-up (see Dribbling - Kevin O'Neill moves, Layups - Tennessee, Shooting - Procopio game shots, Mike Procopio post-perimeter).

1) Reading screen defenders (regular pin-down)

Screener 4 pins down for 3, dummy defence by X4 and X3. Reads are:

a) Lock and trail, bump the cutter

3 takes one step to the basket then comes off the screen, X3 stays low and connected to 3, X4 stays connected to 4 but takes a step up, forcing a catch near the elbow (the cutter has to read both defenders). 3 takes five elbow jump shots.

b) Lock and trail, no bump

X3 chases 3 but X4 does not step up to bump the cutter, who tight curls for a pass, one dribble, finish on the other side.

c) X4 gets disconnected

3 comes wider off the screen, X3 chases, X4 steps up and gets disconnected from 4, 3 hits 4 over the top for a finish at the basket.

d) Shoot the gap

X3 shoots the gap, 3 pushes off the inside foot for a 15-foot corner shot.

Switch sides.

2) Wide pin-downs

3 is in the corner, the pin-down comes from the elbow. No defender on the screener.

a)

X3 can't trail on a wide pin-down, that causes problems, he shoots the gap. 3 takes one step to set up his man and comes off the screen in the elbow area for a shot.

b) Fade

3 fades for a pass and can shoot or rip-though baseline for a layup or pull-up [or go middle if X3 recovers baseline side].

Switch sides.

3) One-dribble jump shots

4 and 5 are rebounders, 2 and 3 are passers, 3 passes to shooter 1 who takes a one-dribble pull-up going away from the pass (the footwork for a right-hander is R-L-R).

sketch

1 goes back, gets a pass from 2, and takes a one-dribble pull-up towards the baseline (the footwork is R-L).

Take 8 shots, repeat from the top with passers on the elbows, then from the other wing.

4) Drive and kick

1 and 2 alternate dribble penetration from the top, X3 is a dummy defender on shooter 3. As 1 drives right, 3 moves out of the corner for a pass, the shot progression is

- jab (right), step back, jump shot
- jab, step back, shot fake, one-dribble pull-up right (the footwork is R-L-R)
- jab, step back, jab, one-dribble pull-up left (the footwork is R-L)
- jab, step back, shot fake, one dribble right, shot fake, shot
- jab, step back, jab, one dribble left, shot fake, shot.

Switch sides, same footwork, the right foot is the jab foot.

5) Feed the post on dribble relocation

3 drives baseline, passes to 5 relocating, gets a return pass for a 15-foot shot. 4 rebounds, 2 is the passer.

3 drives middle, 5 relocates, 3 gets a return pass for a shot. Continue alternating baseline and middle drives for 8 shots.up

6) Guard post-ups

Slice set (flex). The ball is reversed to 2, 3 flexes into the post for a pass, faces up (on this side, reverse pivot on the left foot), jab steps (keep the ball on the left hip), shoots. 1 and 2 move opposite their passes.

sketch

4 rebounds, repeat going to the other side, 3 will front pivot on his left foot, jab and shoot.

Take 10 shots.

See Shooting - 5star rotation.

7) Creating space (jab series)

a)

A rightie wants the ball on the left side in triple threat so it isn't exposed on a jab, which should be with the right foot. Defenders follow the jab foot and the ball.

3 and 4 are rebounders, 2 is the passer. 1 catches with a one-two step (left-right), right away the ball goes on the left hip for about one second, shot progression is

- jab, step back, shoot
- jab, step back, shot fake, one-dribble pull-up right (R-L-R)
- jab, step back, jab, one-dribble pull-up left (R-L)
- jab, step back, shot fake, one-dribble right, shot fake, shot
- jab, step back, jab, one-dribble left, shot fake, shot.

Take 4 shots at each progression.

Keep your shoulders square as you jab, stay low until you shoot. Set him up slow, finish him fast.

b)

Rebounder 2, dummy defender X1, shooter 1 cuts to the wing from the block, jump stops for a pass with his back to the basket, inside pivots to open up (reverse pivot on the left foot), brings the ball to the left hip, the shot progression is

- jab step, step back, shot
- jab, step back, shot fake, one-dribble pull-up right (R-L-R)
- jab, step back, jab, one-dribble pull-up left (R-L).

The shooter takes 10 shots then repeats on the other side using a front pivot on his left foot (some players like Paul Pierce can use both feet to pivot).

See Shooting - Mike Procopio wing.

8) Hang dribble

Two rebounders and a passer, coach is a dummy defender, take a one-dribble shot, let the dribble hang (don't carry it) and take two jabs to get your defender back (e.g. on a last dribble with the left hand, jab left-right, shoot). Stay low. The best time to do it is right inside the 3-point line. Take 7 shots at each of 3 spots.

9) Three-pointers

Usually make 10 shots (or take 5 shots) from 5 spots - corner, wing, top, other wing and corner.

See Shooting - 2-minute.
