Regular flex cut

4) New Jersey Nets series (see Nets offence).

1 passes to 4, 2 flex cuts using 5, then 4 passes to 3.

coachesclipboard.ca - flex duck-in - to get the ball inside on a flex cut, the cutter goes low forcing X5 to help momentarily, 5 ducks in right in front of X5 (drop step towards the ball with his top foot then quickly slide in front). On a pass from 4, 5 should go back in the direction he came from (drop step with the foot furthest from the passer), there shouldn't be any back-side defenders to help.

Ian MacKinnon - if 2 goes under the screen, 5 should duck in.

Lawrence Frank - if 2 goes low and X2 stays attached (chases), 5 ducks into the dots.

Hubie Brown - if X2 goes ballside, 5 will duck in right behind him (option - 2 can bump and fade back to the corner, 5 readjusts the screen).

Don Kelbick - 2 rub cuts over 5, makes contact with X5, making him step back into the lane, 5 ducks in.

Bob Huggins - 2 goes over the screen so X5 has to help, 5 ducks in.

For reads and options on a flex cut, see Offences - Nets, Hubie Brown triangle, Maryland flex, Kelbick 1-4 high, Huggins open-post, and Shooting - 2-shot flex screens.

Other tactics to get the ball inside include curl the post, duck in, backscreen to swim-back, downscreen to post-up, and high-low downscreen, see Quick hitter - Cornell ballscreen, Post play - Duck-in, Tactics - Using backscreens, Using downscreens.

sketch

sketch

7) Xavier

See goxavier.com (newsletter #5, 2010-11).

sketch
22
4 passes back to 1, 3 and 4 stagger screen for 2, who acts like he is going to use the stagger then cuts off a screen from 5. 3 uses 4's screen.

Option - if 2 uses the stagger screen, 3 cuts baseline using 5, see Offence - Oregon University.

Also see Maryland flex (Hold), Fast breaks - Old Dominion (Twenty cut), Hold above, Quick hitters - Ohio State.

Ian MacKinnon - Florida - 5 flex screens for 2 then re-screens on a pass to 1, 3 and 4 don't screen. If defenders switch on the flex cut, 2 keeps going, 1 dribbles to the wing looking to feed 5 posting a mismatch (see Hold above).
