Varidel workout

A 30-minute shooting workout with passer, filmed at the University of Alabama. Varidel takes 262 shots, making 218 (83%).

Make two free throws between drills (or two in a row).

a) 6-spot

6 spots, make 5 three-point shots from each spot, the passer rebounds.

6-spot shooting is used four more times in the workout (between other drills), but with only 2 makes from each spot.

(Variation - make two in a row from each spot)

b) Downscreen

Come off a downscreen, make 5-6 shots, repeat on the other side.

The shooter rebounds.

Make two free throws, then 6-spot shooting (make two from each spot).

c) Baseline

Cut to the corner, make 5-6 shots, repeat on the other side.

d) Transition

Make three, repeat on the other side.

e) Two dribble

Two dribbles to the middle from the wing (use a crossover step), make 5-6 shots, repeat on the other side.

Make two free throws.

f) Stepbacks

Make 5-6 shots off one-dribble stepbacks toward the baseline (start with a crossover step then hop to a 1-2 stepback, here the footwork is L-R-L).

Repeat on the other side (the footwork is R-L-R).

g) One-dribble pull-ups

Make 6-7 shots off shot-fake one-dribble pull-ups to the middle (shown), then baseline.

Use 1-2 crossover footwork (here it is R-L).

Make two free throws.

Repeat on the other side (here a baseline pull-up, R-L footwork).

Make two free throws, do 6-spot shooting.

h) Double screen

Cut out top from down low, make 5 shots, repeat with the passer on the other side.

Make two free throws.

i) Off the dribble

Take 1-2-3 dribbles then shoot, mix it up, e.g., switch hands to a crossover, between the legs, between-cross, between-hesi, freeze pull-up, hang dribble.

Make 10-12, change sides.
