1. Motor skills, Footwork, Triple threat, One-drill pull-up

Motor skills

  • Basic
    • stop, start, change direction efficiently (agility)
    • running (forward, backward), sliding, skipping, jumping, lateral movement
  • Intermediate
    • bounding, lunging

Footwork

  • Basic
    • athletic (ready) stance
    • jump stop
    • forward and reverse pivot, a) permanent pivot foot, b) either foot
    • running forwards, backwards
    • lateral movement - crossover, carioca, step-slide
    • change of speed
    • change of direction - v-cut, spin
    • catching the ball (pass or dribble) - hop stop (off inside foot)
      • drop into a hop for a shot
    • give and go (face cut, back cut)
  • Intermediate
    • stride stop (shield the ball)
    • getting open - v-cut, blast cut, backdoor cut
    • catching on the move - inside-foot forward pivot (cheat step option)
      • counter - inside-foot reverse pivot (Paul Pierce drop step)
    • off the dribble - 1-2 inside-outside
    • dead-ball moves (dribble used)
      • step-thru (crossover)
        • options - shot fake, jab and cross
        • counter - spin back
      • step around (across)
        • counter - step back
      • reverse pivot
        • counter - spin back
  • Advanced
    • getting open - L-cut, spin off, step over (lockdown)
    • outside-foot reverse pivot (sweep)
    • catching on the move
      • crossover attack - catch on the outside foot to attack middle, on the inside foot to attack baseline
      • 3-step move into a shot - push off outside foot, catch 1-2 (inside-outside)
    • permanent pivot footup

Triple threat

  • Basic
    • square up, ball in pocket (option - other hip)
    • protect the ball - sweep (low), rip (high), space (shield) pivot
      • shield options - go, spin back (front pivot), sweep (reverse pivot), sweep and cross
    • read your defender
    • crossover step, blast step (direct drive)
  • Intermediate
    • first step - advantage (separation), ball and foot hit floor at same time; second step - angle to the rim
    • jab step (create space) - cross, go, shoot
    • shot fake (get a defender out of stance, or to close in) - go, cross, shoot
    • rocker step (jab, shot fake), shot fake & jab (create space)
    • sweep (low), rip (high), pass fake, step-off (long jab), cross-jab
  • Advanced
    • attack the top foot if it splits you, otherwise go at the bottom foot
    • read the help
    • catch to shoot before triple threat
    • split and sprint (attack a closeout) - hop, catch, land with split feet, push off the back foot into a crossover attackup

One-dribble pull-up

  • Basic
    • hop stop (three-step)
      • crossover step, e.g. going right, L-R-hop
      • blast step (R-L-hop going right)
      • permanent pivot foot
  • Intermediate
    • hop stop (two-step)
      • crossover-hop (L-hop going right)
    • three-step 1-2 (create separation, gain space)
      • crossover step (L-R-L going right)
      • blast step (R-L-R going right)
      • permanent pivot foot
  • Advanced
    • two-step crossover (L-R going right). e.g. to keep space (already have separation)
    • permanent (left) pivot foot - R-L-R going right, R-L going left (or R-L-R to gain space)up
