Offence Dribble-drive ballscreens
| 1 |
| 1) Loop
a) Loop for 1
4 cuts through the ballside elbow area to the wing, 5 cuts off his butt to pick and roll.
Mads Olesen - through cut - on a step-back dribble by 1 (or if denied), 4 cuts to the basket then clears out opposite dribble penetration (pushing up 2 or 3).
Andrew Grantz - 4 cuts to the ballside corner if 1 uses a reverse dribble, this can be used as a pressure release. |
| 3 b) Loop for 4
1 passes to 4, loops to the wing, 5 picks and rolls.
|
| 2) Chin
a) For 1
5 backscreens for 4 then picks and rolls with 1, 4 replaces.
Olesen, Grantz - 4 keeps going to the corner, pushing up 2.
Option - start with a 1-to-4 pass, 5 backscreens on a return pass to 1.
Variation - 4 downscreens for 5 (Fist).
Grantz - if 4 brings the ball upcourt he can pass to 1, giving 5 a signal to backscreen.
See Fast breaks - Versoix specials (Backscreen-ballscreen), Versoix (Fist).
|
| 5 On a throwback to 4, 1 can cut to the other side, creating a bigger gap in the middle. |
| 6 b) Chin for 4
1 passes to 4, 5 backscreens for 1 then picks and rolls. Brad Stevens - chin to a high spread ballscreen. |
| |
| 4) Suns
a) Suns for 1
5 sprints out to pick and roll, the ballscreen can be flat or angled, 4 spaces and spots up (or dives if he is not a shooter).
Olesen - 5 sprints up to ballscreen any time 1 calls fist, he can use misdirection, sprint up like he is going to set a screen to make 1 go middle but at the last second set it on the outside. To start, 1 can pass to 2 and make a replace cut (instead of cutting through he puts on the brakes and replaces himself), on a return pass, 4 cuts through to the basket (the same action as a pull-back dribble), 5 sprints right off 4's back to ballscreen on the run, and 2 drops to the corner. 4 will hesitate under the hoop then corner cut opposite 1's penetration. Xavier - 4 cuts to the weakside corner on a wing-entry pass, 1 replaces himself for a catch and has a huge gap to drive, or 5 sprints to pick and roll. See Fast breaks - Early ballscreens (Suns). |
| 9 b) Suns for 4
1 passes to 4 and spaces away, 5 picks and rolls, the ballscreen can be flat or angled, here 3 fills behind as 5 rolls.
Option - 5 downscreens for 3 (see 21 Down, below).
Olesen - hitting 3 dragging behind is a good option, he may be open for a shot or post feed to 5 inside. You can have 1 spot up or kick back behind the ballscreen. |
| 5) Over
Jerry Petitgoue - 1 passes to 4 and follows to ballscreen.
Variation - 1 brush cuts, or makes a dribble handoff.
Option - Utah screen - any time the perimeter big (4 or 3) catches the ball, he can pass and follow to ballscreen.
Marc Hart - Bulldog - a dribble-drive pass-and-screen option, any time you pass, ballscreen or screen away. Dave Clarke - motion away - 4 will pass and screen away, instead of setting a ballscreen. |
| 6) Cross-five-get
a)
1 passes to 2, cross-screens for 5 and clears weakside, 5 ballscreens (it can be a flat screen, allowing 2 to go left or right), and can roll or pop.
4 can dive weakside if he is not a shooter.
Olesen - if 5 is a dominant big, post up then ballscreen.
|

Option - 1 basket cuts then exits using 5. |
| 11) Pistol up
2 sets a step-up screen for 1, then uses a flarescreen from 4.
Option - 4 flarescreens for 2 then ballscreens for 1.
