Tactics Dribble-drive continuity
| Basic continuous dribble-drive kickbacks and kickups, rotating in new players (use both baskets if available). See Tactics - Matt Bollant dribble-drive, Offence - Dribble-drive outline. 1) 3 on 0 a) Kickback-kickup 1-2-4, extra players behind 4. Start with a 1-4 kickback, 1 goes off, 3 comes on. Kentucky - 1 pitches it back when 4 gets even with him. Variations - extra players are behind 2 not 4 (see below) - start with a 1-2 kickup (then 2-4 kickback). |
| 2 4-2 kickup.
4 jumps stops, or stride stops (Calipari). Peter Maunder - the drop zone is as high as possible. 2 is patient, goes when 4 picks up the ball. 5 would come up to the other elbow. |
| 3 2-3 kickback, 2 goes off, 5 comes on.
Kentucky - 3 meets 2 at the split line. Bollant - 3 kicks back when 2 gets to the elbow (and 5 relocates). |
| 4 3-4 kickup.
Continue with a 4-5 kickback, 4 goes off.
Rotation - get a kickback, make a kickup, get a kickup, make a kickback, go off.
Option - start with two players in the corner, see below (3 would go behind the second player).
Change sides (4-1 kickback, 1-3 kickup). |
| b) Kickup-kickup
Extra players are behind 2 and 3 in the corners. Start with a 1-3 (or 1-2) kickup, 1 goes off, 4 comes on. Variation - extra players are behind 2 or 3 but not both for more continuous reps. |

| 2) 4 on 0
Players 1-2-3-4, extra players behind 2 and (or) 3. Each dribbler will make a kickup or kickback, go off when you make a kickup.
To start, 1 can make a 1-2 kickup, 1-4 kickback, or 1-3 kickup. On a 1-3 kickup, 1 goes off, 6 comes on, 4 kicks back and replaces 1. Option - script a sequence, e.g., kickback-kickup-kickup. |
| 8 3 can make a 3-4 kickback (shown) or 3-2 kickup. Here 3 goes off and 5 comes on.
Options
- 3 replaces 4 if 2 is patient and stays in the corner - 3 always replaces 4 on a kickback.
Matt Bollant - any time you throw it to the 4-man you become the 4-man.
John Calipari - as a general rule, replace whoever you pass it to.
Jerry Petitgoue - if 3 passes to 4 (behind him) he clears to the corner, 2 dragged (kicked) up on 3's drive. |
| 9 4 makes a kickup to 5 and goes off. |
| 6 can make a kickback (shown) or kickup, here 5 stays in the corner so 6 replaces 2.
Continue with a 2-1 kickup. |
