| Press breaks Hammer & Breaker

 | 1 Chris Harney
 a) Hammer

 Against a 1-2-1-1 that is face-guarding.

5 takes two steps into the backcourt then releases to the block. 4 is the fastest, most-athletic player, he steps between the legs of his defender then releases to the sideline, foul-line extended. At the same time 1 and 2 walk their defenders up about two steps to the first markers, then 2 steps towards the ball, 3 sells a pass to 2.

2 and 5 are not really involved.

 | 2 3 passes to 4, who brings the ball high and forward pivots on his inside foot to square up. On the pass to 4, 1 steps into his defender and releases upcourt. |

 | 3 If 4 is denied he goes long, 1 screens across for 2 then opens to the ball, and will be open.
On a pass to 1, get into Breaker (see below).

 | 4 b) Breaker
If the defence isn't face-guarding, 1 goes to get the ball, 4 and 5 go upcourt to the hash marks, 2 goes wide, 3 stays in the middle as safety valve.

 | 5 5 flashes middle, 2 releases up the sideline.
If 1 passes back to the 3, the middle of the floor is a good position to be a ballhandler.

Against a man-to-man press, 3 clears out on the inbounds pass to 1.

Use Breaker against a 2-2-1 or 1-2-2 press.
