1-2-2 match-up situations Duke runner (low post)
| 1 See 1-2-2 match-up situations.
Defenders X1-X2-X3 guard 1-3-4, X4-X5 guard 5 and baseline runner 2.
X1 takes the ball,
- X2 has 4 - X4 has 2 - X3 has 3 - X5 has 5.
X4 and X5 will switch (bump) when 2 runs the baseline.
Hoop Tactics - the match-up zone defends basket cuts by switching. Here, however, X5 takes and stays with 5, and X4 stays with 2.
See Defences - Foster 3-2, Pistons 1-2-2 match-up, Auburn 1-2-2, 10 zone. |
| 2 a)
1 passes to 4, X4 and X5 pinch the low post, X4 can get out to the corner.
X3 sinks.
X5 is ballside with matchup 5. |
| 3 On a pass to the corner, X4 takes away baseline, X5 fronts from the top (or can slide behind 5), X3 covers weakside.
Here X2 stays to deny a pass back out.
Foster - X2 can deny (facing the ball), plug (gap), or trap.
Pistons 1-2-2 - X2 sags to the elbow, bumping X1 (one defender on the ball, four defenders near the paint). |
| 4 b)
1 passes to 3, 2 runs the baseline, 5 changes sides. |
| 5 X4 and X5 switch, X5 has 2, X4 has 5.
They pinch the post, X5 can get out to the corner. |
| 6 c)
Here runner 2 is weakside, X4 is ballside helping on low post 5 since X5 is defending on the outside (or is fronting).
X2 may need to cover a skip pass to 2.
