1 and 2 sprint toward the basket, plant their outside foot (closest to the sideline), open to the ball, seal for passes from 3 and 4 and shoot (rebound and change lines). 3 and 4 are the next shooters, first player to make 15 wins. Progressions
- 15 mid-range makes from the wings
- 10 made 3-point shots.
See Shooting - Borg, Ten fingers, Pass and move.
Canada Basketball Technical Manual - Pivot/Flare
1 and 2 run to the elbows, jump stop, reverse pivot, cut out to the wings on the foul-line extended, make a backdoor cut, or catch passes with a two-foot jump stop facing the basket, crossover step and drive baseline for an outside-inside power layup, or crossover middle for a pull-up jump shot.
See Footwork - Pivot to score.
Coach is under the basket, when players go to the basket on a baseline drive or backdoor cut they finish with an outside-inside power layup if he keeps his arms down, or pivot away for a shot if he puts his hands up.
Variation - players pull up for a shot if coach shows his chest in the drive line to the basket, take a power layup if coach shows only an arm in the drive line, or take a normal layup if coach is not in the area.
See Shooting - Pasquali reaction, Layups - Pass and cut opposite.
A coach defends on each wing, and can deny and force a backdoor cut, or on a catch force middle (play on the low side), force baseline (play on the high side) or force a shot (sag off).
