Zone offence Heath Millar continuity
| 1 Heath Millar
1) Against an even-front zone
3-out 2-in set, 4 and 5 are behind the backboard. 1 passes to 2 (or 3), 5 (designated) cuts behind the defence and flashes up the middle to the foul line then ballside elbow, 4 is ballside low, 1 steps ballside. |
| 2 2 passes back to 1, who gap/freeze dribbles then passes to 3, 5 dives low opposite, 4 bounces off the baseline to the elbow. |
| 3 On a skip pass the posts blast cut into space. |
| 4 Once a ballside has been created the low post can step out to the short corner. Look to get the ball to the high post or short corner. On a pass to the short corner the high post dives to the rim, and can seal a defender. |
| 5 If the ball is passed from the short corner to 1 or 2, 5 will dive screen the last man of the zone.
See Bill Self (crackdown).
If the ball is passed from the short corner to 3 and then reversed, 5 and 4 x-cut. |
| 6 On a pass to the high post, the low post can cut behind the defence, or cut to and seal a defender.
A pass from 5 to 2 is considered a skip pass, the post players would blast cut. |
| 7 2) Against an odd-front zone
Two-guard front, shooter 2 starts at the high post then chooses a corner. 3 dribble freezes to occupy the top and wing defenders before passing to the corner, make the back of the zone come out to the corner. The shooter runs the baseline on ball reversal.
|
| 8 If 2 dribbles out of the corner, this triggers drag action, 5 goes to the short corner and 4 dives to the rim area. |
