Try-outs
Kris Treat - Passing

Kris Treat

a) 3-man weave

Up and back with a layup at both ends, look for ability to catch and pass on the move.

See Passing - 3-man weave.

b) Rebound-outlet (shown)

There are two lines of players, one under the basket and one at the hash mark. Coach is at the foul line with a ball, player 1 is 3-4 feet in front of coach, facing the basket. When coach tosses the ball off the backboard, 1 goes up, rebounds, pivots and makes an outlet pass to 4. Coach moves up to jam the outlet pass and force him to pivot or use an escape dribble, or sometimes floats back to harass the outlet receiver. Look for the passer's decision making and quality of the pass. This is also a rebounding drill.

See Rebounding - 1 on 0 form rebounding.

c) Man in the middle

Two attackers are about 15 feet apart facing each other, a defender applies maximum pressure on the ballhandler, who must pivot and use ball fakes to make a pass to his partner. The passer becomes the defender on a deflection or bad pass. Look for ability to remain calm under pressure, to pivot, and to ball fake.
