Shooting Billy Donovan using screens
| 1 Billy Donovan FIBA Assist Issue 13
a) Back screen, flare
2 simulates coming off a backscreen and flares to the corner. 1 makes an overhead pass to the inside shoulder, 2 catches with knees bent, steps into the shot, rebounds, passes to 1, returns to his original spot. Make 7 shots then rotate.
Do not backpedal when flaring, rotate your hips and run, seeing the ball. Kyle Travis - Flare Cut - create momentum, sprint, run the defender into the screen, backpedal at the screen to keep momentum going (instead of just shuffling). |
| 2 b) Backscreen, pop back
2 steps out from the block to simulate a backscreen, steps to the ball with hands ready and fingers pointing up, catches the ball with knees bent and immediately elevates into the shot. |
| 3 c) Screen away, flash
2 simulates using a screen away by taking his man away then coming hard to the ball. |
| 4 d) Screen and step back
2 ballscreens, 1 comes off the screen aggressively, 2 steps back for a pass and shot. |
| 5 e) Low-post screen, wing cut
2 simulates taking his man under the rim then cutting shoulder to shoulder off a downscreen to the wing, hands ready, fingers pointed up. On the catch, square to the basket in triple threat. Work in sets of five - catch and shoot, shot fake pull-up right, shot fake pull-up left. Rotate every 5 shots.
|
| 6 f) Low-post screen, fade cut
2 takes his man into the lane then fades to the corner, simulating a situation where his defender cheats to the middle of the floor. Work sets of five.
