Press breaks LSU specials
| 1 John Brady
See LSU Set, the regular press breaker.
a) One Down
After a time-out or even a free throw. The bigs sprint back wide on the slap of the ball, 1 screens for 3 who takes one step towards the screen (not too close) then goes to the weakside block. 1 goes long, 2 throws to his outside. Most of the time the defenders will switch, and you want them to. |
| 2 One Down to press offence
1 is not open, 2 passes to 3, 1 comes back middle, 4 goes long, 3 drives it sideline, 2 is behind the ball into the regular press offence.
| 3 If 2 inbounds to 4, 4 will be trapped, he passes back to 2 and gets back to his spot.
| 4 If 2 drives at 4, 3 gets behind the ball.
| 5 If 2 runs the baseline and passes to 5, 3 goes to the other side.
| 6 5 passes back to 2 and gets to his spot in the press offence.
| 7 b) Five Down
After a time-out. 4 and 3 sprint back wide, 1 steps out of bounds for a pass from 2, 5 screens for 2.
| 8 1 hits 5 if 2 is not open (e.g., defenders switch). 2 comes back middle, 5 gets it back to 1 then sprints to his normal spot in the press breaker.
| 9 3 slides behind if 1 drives it up.
| 10 c) Shooter
You anticipate that the player getting the inbounds pass will be fouled.
1 and 5 exchange spots. On the slap of the ball, 3 runs off 5's screen to the deep corner, 5 rolls to the ballside block as soon as the cutter passes him.
| 11 When that happens, 1 sprints to get in line with 2, who then runs the baseline. 1 plants and cuts back to the other corner when 2 starts moving.
| 12 On the inbounds pass, 5 sprints to his spot, 3 goes middle into the press offence.
