"Open" is a continuity offence used by the New Zealand Tall Blacks.
4 is one step behind the ball, 5 is on the elbow, 2 and 3 are foul-line extended.
It's a passing offence, you have to do a good job creating leads.
1 passes to 4, sets up his defender and uses a double flare screen by 5 and 2 (5 has a foot on the elbow, 2 has a foot on the 3-point line, their inside feet are together).
On a catch, 1 can shoot or rip baseline and look for a drift, diagonal or dunker spot.
1 can flare, or front cut right down the middle. |
| 2 2 slices down the middle looking for the ball, 5 steps out to replace 1. |
| 3 2 comes up to the elbow, ball reversal to 5, 2 and 3 come together to flare screen, 4 uses it.
If X4 chases over the screen, 4 curls to the basket for a layup, and 3 also slices.
5 can pass fake to 4, then hit the slice cutter.
The guard-to-guard pass can't get too wide. |
| 4 3 slices middle, 2 pops out, and is an option if 4 gets a pass from 5 off the flare screen. |
