| 1 2 and 3 break up and are overplayed, 1 passes to 4, 2 backcuts, 4 drop steps, 5 screens for 2, 1 replaces 2 on the ballside wing. The backcut is most effective if 2 is above 4 on the catch.
Option - against pressure, 1 can dribble chase 2, who loops to the top, if 1 passes to 4 he backcuts, exchanging roles with 2 (Arizona 1-4 offence).
Variations
- 1 first cuts for a hand-off - 4 fakes a hand-off - 5 just slides down to the low post, without screening for 2 - 4 cuts to get open, and 3 and 5 stagger or double screen for 2, e.g. Tubby Smith 40 series - start in a 1-4 or 4-out 1-in set.
