Attack/defend Pick and drive
| 1 beone.basketball.ca
X2 passes to 1 and closes out to defend. 3 sets a ballscreen for 1, who drives the basket, going by the screen shoulder to shoulder. 3 reverse pivots to seal X2, rebounds and passes to the defending line. Rotate defender to shooter to rebounder.
(Progressions)
- 3 rolls to the basket (pick and roll) - defender X2 must fight over the screen to stay with 1 (get skinny) - add a defender on 3, who must announce the screen and help defend it (e.g., hard hedge and recover, or trap with X2).
See Attack/Defend - Mike MacKay ballscreens. |
| 2 Canada Basketball Technical Manual
X2 passes to 3 then defends 1, 3 passes to 1 and ballscreens, X2 can defend either player.
Progressions
a)
X2 follows his pass to start by defending screener 3. |
| 3 b) 3-on-2
Add an attacker in the ballside corner, with defender, work on using a triangle pass to find the open player. 1 has only two dribbles after using the screen, X2 and X8 decide on who they want to cover.
Here 3 starts with the ball and X2 starts by guarding 1 (progression - X2 guards 3 to start).
c) 4-on-3
3-on-3 on the perimeter, an unguarded inside player is the screener.
d) 5-on-4
See Scrimmage - Bauer 5 on 4 motion, Huggins 5 on 4.
