Shooting Pitt screening
| 1 Jamie Dixon
Two balls, the cutter and screener shoot.
Diagonal screen
1 passes to 2, takes one step to the basket to test the basket cut (if his defender doesn't jump to the ball) and get a better angle on the screen, then screens for 3 butt to the ball. Screeners get open if they set good screens. 3 stays wide, waits on the screen, and watches the defence (the three W's). Can use a guided coach as the defender on 3.
a) Backcut
3 backcuts if X3 is even with or above him, 1 pops back straight to the ball. |
| 2 b) Curl cut
3 curls tight if X3 trails, 1 pops back. |
| 3 c) High
X3 goes under the screen, 3 goes high to the slot, 1 spaces out to the wing. |
| 4 d) Switch
1 breaks off the screen when he feels X1 leaving him, cuts to the basket then spaces out weakside, 3 replaces him in the slot. |
| 5 e) Basket cut
1 basket cuts when X1 doesn't jump to the ball, 3 replaces. |
| 6 f) Seven (re-screen and fade)
If X3 jumps to the ball and goes under the screen, it's an automatic re-screen and fade to the corner. 2 brings it on the dribble, 1 spaces out the other side (the wing will be filling behind 2). |
| 7 g) Curl and screen
3 curls the screen then screens for 1 (a shooter), who pops out for a pass. 2 brings it on the dribble, 3 spaces weakside. |
| 8 Flare screen
3 sets a flarescreen for 1, who takes his man in (get him ballside) then backs out, hands ready, butt down. 2 brings it on the dribble, 3 spaces weakside outside the arc. If X1 goes over the screen, 1 is probably looking to sweep baseline.
If X1 goes under the screen, 1 pops out, 3 re-screens (turns to downscreen). |
