Coach K

a)

1 facing the baseline defensive slides out to the corner, backpedals to the hash mark, cuts to the basket for a pass from coach and a lay-up, keeping his body between the ball and a coach with a blocking pad. 2 starts when 1 reaches the hash mark.

A coach rebounds and passes to another coach, who gives the ball to the passing coach.

Use both baskets, go to 10 combined makes, then each player goes to the foul line for a 1-and-1.

Progressions

- 15-foot shots off the glass
- step-up 3-point shots.

More Five-Star Basketball Drills - start in the corner, sprint up the sideline to halfcourt, v-cut to the basket for a no-dribble layup.

See Defending - Slide, backpedal, layup.

b) Wings

Each player has a ball. 2 passes to coach from behind halfcourt and cuts for a return pass, will rip it through, extend and go outside of his space to the basket with one dribble, rebound and go out to the other side, and be the first player to go from there.

Progressions

- attack middle (crossover step) with one dribble
- one-dribble pull-up baseline, then middle
- 15-foot catch and shoot
- 3-point shot.

If there is no pass in transition the wings will cross, screening for each other. Options are catch and shoot, one-dribble pull-up, catch and go middle (defender is trailing underneath).

c) Point guards

Take two dribbles from halfcourt, shoot at the foul line.

Progressions

- 3-point shots
- head and shoulder fake up as though to shoot, one hard crossover dribble into a lay-up with the other hand (use both hands)
- crossover into elbow shot.

Then 1 passes to a coach on the wing, goes away, replace cuts for a pass and shot when coach drives baseline. Go both sides.

Progression - coach attacks middle, 1 moves weakside as the ball moves.
