Defences
Tandem and 3

sketch
1

Herb Brown

X1, X2 and X3 defend man to man, X4 and X5 defend in a tandem zone.

Can be done fullcourt too.

coachingbball.proboards.com - for a tandem and 3, the middle and baseline players use 1-3-1 rules, the point and wing players match up and play man-to-man.

(Set up the tandem whenever a player guarded man-to-man gets the ball. Optionally force left when the ball is out top.)

- you can have weak or strong zone defenders
- the man-to-man players can rotate into normal help defence positions
- when the ball is on the wing with a player guarded man to man, zone defenders cover the ballside high and low post (a tandem)
- if a zone defender guards the ball, he should not extend beyond the 3-point line, and the other zone defender should protect the basket
- shots by the other two attackers should be contested and outside the key.

- three players are guarded 1-on-1, front a post player, deny perimeter players and forget help
- the other two players are not guarded at all
- the stick guys do not leave the lane to cover the other two unless you tell them to
- you could have a stick player trap the ball if a star gets a pass.
