Combination of rotating zone and sagging man to man.
X1 has his heel on the arc, hands above the shoulders, forces the ballhandler left.
X2 has his inside foot on the elbow, X3 is one step from the other elbow, both have their inside arms at shoulder level.
X4 and X5 have both feet in the lane above the block, one step closer to the ball than the attacking posts, arms at shoulder level.
X2 forces sideline.
X4 is halfway to the corner, parallel to the baseline, ready to deflect a pass to the low post with his inside arm.
X5 is in line with the ball and the basket.
X3 is in line with the ball and the far corner, both feet in the lane.
X1 is in the free-throw circle, inside foot touching the foul line.
Ball in the corner.
X4 takes the ball, both hands above the shoulders.
X5 fronts a mid or low post.
X2 denies a pass to the elbow area in an open stance to the ball.
X1 and X3 are on the midline.
Hoop Tactics - X2 stays on the wing to deny a return pass (or drops to help on the post), X1 stays on the elbow.
On a pass to the corner - X5 has basket protection (four defenders rotate counter-clockwise).
Trap the corner.
On a pass to the high post from the point, X4 takes the ball, X5 forms a tandem until X3 slides down to the low or medium post, X2 plays zone in that area with hands high, X4 attacks the ball, X1 makes a quarter turn and watches the ball and player at the point.
On a pass to the midpost from the wing or corner, X4 traps with X5, X3 goes to the weakside block.
On a pass from the wing, X2 makes a quarter turn and watches the ball ready to cover a pass; on a pass from the corner, X2 slides down to help in the lane.
If an attacker dribbles from the point to the wing, X1 guards the ball for three dribbles then changes with X2.
X2 stays with the ballhandler if he dribbles to the corner. X4 covers the mid to low post, X1 covers the post to wing area, X5 stays in the lane in front of the basket, must be aware of any flash cuts, X3 stays in line with the ball and opposite angle of the free-throw circle.
X2 covers the dribbler back out of the corner then changes with X1.
