1-3-1 Billy Tubbs
 | 1 Billy Tubbs X3 picks up the ball at halfcourt, or sometimes 3/4 court. Above the foul-line extended belongs to X3 (the ball). |
 | 2 X3 plays on the side of the dribbler, inviting penetration, but not letting him go to the other side. Ballside X1 supports X3, but covers the corner, and plays in the passing lane to 2. Weakside X2 supports X3 in the passing lane to 3 and covers the other corner. X4 plays between the ball and the basket, stops all penetration, butt fronts everybody. X5, the best rebounder, is always weakside. Most teams play 2-1-2 against it. |

 | 4 Offside X2 covers the elbow, X3 denies a pass back out, facing the ball. |
 | 5 If 1 passes to 3, it's X3's, he chases. X2 stunts at ("messes with") 3 but his coverage is 4 in the corner. |
 | 6 On a pass to 4 in the corner, X2 closes out from the side, X4 butt fronts 5. |
 | 7 Invite penetration, point guards will take it, it ends up being a double team. Here 3 is stopped by X4 and X3, X2 stays in the passing lane to 4. X1 covers the pass to 1. X5 has to get a pass to 5, and looks to pick off a skip pass to 2. |
